Why Women’s Tennis Needs to be Cherished
Really, what’s the agreement here?
When Steffi Graf dominated the tennis court enthusiasts did not like it. When both of the Williams girls had been squashing everyone on the route to the championship, the public did not like it. And currently when grand slams are up for grabs? Supporters do not want it.
Most acknowledge that the Williams duo stand above and outside the rest most of the time. However injuries and lessened non-Slam calendar years suggest they now meet prior to the finals. Although yet again we must remember that not too long ago the previously referenced whining concerning this frequent battle in the final round and their supremacy over the rest of the players.
Well currently we have Dinara Safina boasting the number spot in the ranks and the US Open seedings. And what exactly do fans imply? She doesn’t deserve it because she has not won a Grand Slam (not to mention that she’s been the loser in a few slam championship of late.) But she’s making slam title and she’s somewhat engaging along the way, on the court and off.
Earlier Safina was forced to fight it out for a second time, just about becoming the first top seed to lose in the first round. Was it entertaining? I thought so. However we will hear all about the illegitimacy of the ranking method, and so forth.
And then there was Venus Williams last night–also pushed to three sets. Furthermore entertaining. (Furthermore note that Venus did not have the best of summers post Wimbledon.) But likely to be heard is the prevalence of injuries among the sisters Williams and their “distractions” off the courts.
Plus presently Kim Clijsters is back and instead of being very psyched – which one should be because she is fun and nice and a worthy player – people are all like “well what does it indicate regarding the girls game that she could come back and have a six and two win-loss count for the summer months?”
Well I think it proclaims that she – as she consistently has -maintains her physical state extraordinarily well. And that she’s an experienced pro athlete and she has just about nothing to lose.
So let’s specifically cease all the insulting, please. Yes, there are problems in the women’s game. (Such as the lack of selection in terms of playing technique.) Although I personally enjoy that it is everyone’s conjecture as to who will be in that final in less than two weeks. And I am excited about seeing how they end up there.
