Why Women’s Tennis Needs to be Appreciated

Seriously, what is this about?

When Steffi Graf ruled the tennis court the media did not like it. When both of the Williams girls happened to be wiping the floor with anybody on the road to the title, the public didn’t enjoy it. And presently when tournaments are more well balanced than before? Supporters don’t prefer it.

Most admit that the Williams duo dominate the majority of the time. But physical issues and condensed non-Slam schedules spell they now play against one another before the title match. Although again we must remember that just a year or two ago the above-mentioned complaints regarding this frequent meeting in the finals and their supremacy over other players.

Thus now we have Dinara Safina boasting the number one spot in the rankings and the US Open seedings. And what do people imply? She doesn’t deserve it because she has never won a Grand Slam (not to mention that she has choked in a few slam finals of late.) Although she’s reaching the slam title and she is rather amusing along the way, away from the tennis court as well.

Yesterday she had to battle it out for a second time, becoming the 1st top seed to suffer defeat in the 1st round. Was it entertaining? I thought it was. However we will learn all about the inaccuracy of the rank method, etc..

And then there was Venus Williams last night–also pushed to three sets. Moreover compelling. (Additionally note that Venus didn’t have the winningest of summers post Wimbledon.) But in all likelihood to be heard is the prevalence of injuries among the sisters Williams and their “distractions” off the courts.

Furthermore currently Kim Clijsters is back and as opposed to being extremely enthralled – which one ought to be since she’s fun and kind and a respectable competitor – fans are all like “well what does it reveal regarding the girls game that she may come back and have a six and two finish during the summer season?”

Well I believe it says that she – like she consistently has -exercises especially well. And that she’s a veteran and she has just about zero to lose.

So let’s specifically finish all the bashing, please. Sure, there are issues in the women’s game. (Some would include the absence of selection in terms of playing style.) Although I myself like that it’s everyone’s guess as to who’ll end up in that final in less than 2 weeks. And I am excited about seeing how they get there.
