What Wine Means To You?

‘Only wine can soothe our unhappiness.’ This is a ancient Chinese saying. Wine is always regarded as a ’soul-pain killer’, but does it only mean that? I am quite an alcoholic although I never drink to get drunk, wine means lots for me.

For many people, we drink when we feel unhappy. When I am depressed, I would drink some wine. I know that drinking cannot help tackle problems, but at least after drinking I won’t dig into the problems too much and I can have a good rest after drinking and to regain energy for a new day. This gives me more power to settle troubles and to work harder.

We drink when we feel excited. When we have things we want to celebrate, or when we are having parties, how can we not have a drink? Even if we don’t drink, we can still be very excited during these events, but I am quite sure that no one can doubt wine’s ability of boosting up the party to full swing!

Drinking helps to strengthen our guts! Actors in films drink before they fight, this appears in 5 out of 10 Chinese martial art movies. For me, when I do not have the gut to do something I normally won’t do, I may drink a bit to make myself brave enough to act. I believe many people have experience like this.

I have a very good example to share. My friend loves a handsome guy for a long period of time but she dared not to let him know. One day we went for happy hour and after drinking some wine, she was so brave to call the guy and let him know how much she adored him. Now they are going to get engaged soon! How lovely wine is!

When we want to create a relaxing environment, we drink. In many events alcohols are provided, like cocktail receptions, ‘Table for Four’ dating, casual interviews and orientation. Wine is provided to create a less stressful and more relaxing environment, so that people can make friends easily. The atmosphere would not be that relaxing without wine.

Scholars and news groups always emphasize how harmful drinking is. No doubt, many crimes like speed-driving, wounding and raping are caused by severe intoxication, however, drinking wine is not equivalent to crime.

To drink is not to err, if we can control ourselves not to drink too much, wine can be very good for us. That・s why, no matter how much I love drinking, the bottom line is never to let myself get drunk. Remember, to enjoy wine, is not to create crime.
