What Shall I Buy – A Netbook Or A Laptop?
Due to the increase of cheap netbook computers, a common question being asked is: shall I purchase a netbook or a laptop?
Lets look at the benefits and disadvantages of both.
First of all lets look at netbooks. The market for these little machines has grown considerably over the last 12 months. One of the primary reason for this growth is their cheap price. It has become possible to get a good machine within the $250 to $500 range and this is a great benefit to many families. Their other main benefit is their very small size, enabling you to be able to transport you pc around with total ease. Most screen sizes range between 8 and 11 inches.
Their primary use is for web surfing, email or things like word, and not for watching films or multi-tasking. Due to their small size they sacrifice performance to conserve power and have comparatively weak processors. The other issue with their size is the small size of the screen and also the keyboard. This tends to make using a such a small machine slightly more tricky than a laptop.
They are generally intended as a second computer to be used alongside your main computer and herein lies their main strength. You can simply have you laptop or desktop at home or in the office and take your netbook when you need to travel, such as on a commute or going to a meeting.
Laptops are more expensive. Whilst you can get a good deal on a cheap one for about $300, on the whole their range goes far higher, into the thousands. This reflects their much higher performance capabilities.
Laptops were once at the cutting edge of the pc market due their portability. However now there are the smaller and cheaper alternatives. The benefits of laptops however is their overall specification. They may not be quite so convenient now to throw in a bag and head off with, but they offer better functions across the board. Couple this with the larger screen for both work and pleasure and they are simply better machines to use on the whole.
Of course, it really does depend what you need and require from your pc. If you are looking for entertainment then a laptop will most definitely be more convenient and it can still quite easily be moved about the house or elsewhere. However if you simply require more simply talks such as browsing and simple office functions then a netbook may be more suitable.
