Parenting Advice; We All Need It
Parenting advice for children that are younger than teenage years is something most people need. The teenage years are something I can not even begin to give you advice on. People much more qualified than me, will need to give you advice on teenagers. I am not even going to touch that one. Let’s concentrate on the younger years. The years that are important for shaping your child into the man or woman they will become.
Most parents will tell you that the job of parenting is rewarding but hard. It is not always easy to be sure you are doing right by your children. The best piece of advice I can give you is to do everything out of love for you child. When punishing your children never do it because of anger, do it out of love instead. Love you children and that will be the best thing you ever did for them.
If you have a toddler there are several things you need to know. A toddler can some times break down and have a temper tantrum. The best way to deal with this is to stop it before it even starts. When a child is at home with Mom or Dad all day it is a good idea to take a walk or something similar to exercise them. Also play with your toddler, and I am not talking about all day long that would not be realistic.
When a toddler has enough stimulation and is kept busy they tend to be a lot easier to deal with. The temper tantrums will likely decrease if you keep your toddler on a schedule. A toddler likes being able to know what is coming next and a schedule helps them to know. A toddler feels more secure when they are aware of what has to be done. This will make bedtime and nap time much easier for both of you.
When children out grow the toddler age and hit the school ages things start to change for you and for them. When your child starts school they feel like they are finally a big kid. Now it is time for you to treat them like a big kid. Giving your school aged children light chores after school is a great way to teach them responsibility. The chore will need to depend on the age of the child. Do not expect a five or six year old to clean the entire kitchen.
A school aged kid mostly the younger ones are likely to have a temper tantrum when being disciplined. When your kid first starts school they are not completely over the toddler years yet, this is why they still tend to cry and have tantrums. When this is happening you may want to try to teach you kid about expressing their feelings. Tell them that you want them to let you know if they become angry or frustrated, but they have to do it respectfully.
I know that these things are not always going to work on all kids. I also know that sometimes we have to discipline our children a little tougher than what I have suggested. When things get to out of hand with a toddler or an older child it is time for you as the parent to step in and put your foot down. It is good to be nice and understanding to your child but there is a time for hard love and if they need it there is nothing wrong with punishing your child.
There are many ways to discipline a child even if you choose to not spank your kids. Younger children respond well to time outs, but older children usually do not care if they are in time out. A time out will more than likely not work on a twelve year old child. With a child this age you should consider taking away something they enjoy. Take away something they often use and enjoy and put it away. Do not give it back until the bad behavior is no more.
