How my walking cane helped me recover
I cant believe that it has been 4 years since I damaged my knee while playing soccer. I have had to use a walking cane ever since. I went to the doctor the other day and he took some x-rays that showed a minor bone dislocation that is not healing. I have had to use my walking cane to get around ever since the accident.
I have a bit of a hard time adjusting to the fact that I cant play soccer like I used to. I still play a pick up game or two. Playing with my nephew has been difficult as well. Don’t get me wrong we play, but it just isn’t the same.
The other night I was thinking about how lucky I am. I have great friends that support me and of course my family. I cant believe how much I have relied on my walking cane. Like the other night I was walking up to my apartment and slipped. I quickly stuck the cane out and recovered my balance. I was a good 20 steps up, I could have been hurt pretty bad. The cane came to my rescue once again. I did hit my head pretty hard, but it could have been much worse.
As I looked over to the side, I saw my neighbor talking to his son. I called him over to give me a hand and asked him if he could help with my groceries. He is such a great help. I am sure glad that he is my neighbor. I dont know what I would do without him.
The following morning I made sure to stop by my neighbor’s and thank him for all the help. He offered to stop by and see how I was doing, he is such a nice guy. He stopped by with a snack later that day.
I passively fell asleep around four-thirty, and I woke up around six. I was awaken by one of my nephews who had came in through the front door. “I thought that door was unlocked”, I muttered. “Well, its not” he said in a smart alec tone. “What do you want?” I demanded. “I came to see you”, he said sincerely. Right then and there, I realized how lucky I was.
