Fleas are a serious problem for many pet owners. However, your pet is not the only carriers of this pest. Fleas hitch a ride on anyone or any animal on their way in the house. This happens to many of us. I found some info on how to help this problem, but before that lets start with just a little knowledge.
What are the signs of a flea infestation?
1. Pet Itching Too Much
Your dog or cat itching more than usual is a good sign. However, your pet my just have irritated or dry skin.
2. Small Red Bumps
There are usually little red itchy bumps that appear around your ankles and if your children play on the floor they could have them all over. These bumps disappear in just a few days.
OK, Now for how I got rid of the fleas in my home?
First, getting rid of fleas is a process that will take you a few hours, so make sure you have at least that much time to complete all three steps. If for some reason you don’t the flea infestation will not be completely fixed and they will come back again.
(1) Rid Your Pet of Fleas
* Comb Out Pets – Get a flea comb and comb out all the fleas from their fur.
* Use Flea Powder – Evenly spread powder over your pet. This kills those flea eggs and larvae so they don’t grow up to multiply into another flea infestation.
(2) Eliminating Fleas In The House
* Start with cleaning all the surfaces in your home. Don’t forget to do the counters, cabinets, any tables, and the floors. To ensure the fleas are all gone, also do the floors and surfaces in the basement and garage. It’s humid there and fleas will be hiding in these areas.
* Vacuum every inch of the house. Get out the attachment and clean the corners of the rooms. Fleas love to hide here.
* After vacuuming sprinkle powder evenly over the carpet.
* Wash couch surfaces and bedding in all bedrooms and sprinkle flea powder over them.
(3) Flea Free Yard
* Take that same flea powder and evenly coat the lawn and concrete.
* Do this at the end of every spring to prevent any fleas from multiplying.
Before you spray anything anywhere in your house make sure to read all the warnings and directions. Most are not safe until dry so do not spray around pets, or children. Also, while spraying outside remember to avoid spraying any gardens especially ones containing foods.
