Are Video Game Tester Jobs As Great As They Sound?

Hi, my name is Pete Wotton and not so long ago I was exactly where you are right now. I loved playing video games and didnt want a regular, boring job. So when someone suggested I look at becoming a video game tester I thought it was just perfect.

Video game tester jobs do not suit everyone and this article talks about what you may experience as a game tester and to give you the plus points and the negatives advantages as well as the disadvantages.

When I was just playing video games for fun, I had no idea there were jobs available that paid you to test pre release games.

If the thought of becoming a tester yourself is one you particularly like the sound of, then you need to read this.

Before you decide to devote your life to testing video games (or at least a few years of it), let me give you the positives as well as the negatives.

The downside are…

* This industry is very competitive and testing jobs are highly sought after by lots of eager young men and women looking for that dream job.

* When you first start off as a game tester you will find the wages to be fairly low. It does get better when you complete more assignments and gain more experience.

* The hours can be extensive and unsociable.

* There is no guarantee that once you finish one job, you will go straight on to another.

* Expect to work inside under artificial lighting. The sun doesnt shine when you are testing video games!

However, here is the flip side…

* You get paid to play (or rather test), the very latest video games, before they go on sale and before the public sees them.

* If you have to have a job, you might as well get a job that you are going to really enjoy.

* You work and socialize with people similar to yourself, i.e. people who are passionate about video games.

* After your first few assignments, you will find other jobs within the company that you might like to try. Other jobs might require different abilities or qualifications but at least you will get to see them in action and decide if you want to go for that type of work in the future.

* If you do not like the thought of a regular 9 to 5 job then it might suit you. It sure beats flippin burgers or collecting glasses.

I have covered just a few advantages and disadvantages to video game tester jobs and what they entail.

Despite the cool image, it is not a job that will appeal to everyone or suit everyones lifestyle. But if you are not put off by some of the negative aspects to it, you should seriously look into it.
